Optimizing the sortation of polypropylene (PP) from curbside feedstock to produce food-grade recycled PP.

Define acceptable pathways to produce food-grade recycled PP with feedstock from curbside collection, using improved sortation processes to sort food-contact from non-food-contact PP items.

This project focuses on advancing the circularity of rigid PP by testing and validating sorting solutions to recover food contact PP from Canadian curbside collection and produce a high-quality food grade resin. A compatibility and performance assessment will be conducted to ensure the recycled resin meets the quality and safety requirements for targeted end uses such as refrigerated tubs, bottles, trays, pouches, and hot-fill pods.
