Calgary, Alberta, March 11, 2026 —The Circular Plastics Taskforce (CPT) is pleased to announce the expansion of its Board of Directors with the addition of the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation (ABCRC). By bringing a complementary voice to the table, ABCRC’s participation will further strengthen the CPT’s governance and presence across Canada and support its efforts to advance practical solutions for improving post-consumer plastics management and accelerating the circular economy.
“ABCRC is pleased to become the first Alberta-based member of the Circular Plastics Taskforce and we are thrilled about this opportunity to collaborate with partners across the plastics recycling value chain,” said Lori Koebel, Vice President, Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations, ABCRC. “By working together, we can share insights, identify opportunities, and help drive concrete, scalable solutions that can improve recycling outcomes and support circularity across Canada.”
Launched in 2020, the CPT is a one-of-a-kind collaborative initiative dedicated to finding and trialing concrete solutions to optimize plastics recycling though research and pilot projects. It brings together major food, beverage, and packaging companies in Canada, along with producer responsibility organizations and industry associations, to find a better alignment between end-market needs for recycled resins and the recycling value chain.
“As one of the largest common collection systems for beverage containers in Canada, ABCRC brings valuable expertise and a strong track record in advancing recovery systems,” added Marie-Anne Champoux-Guimond, co-Chair of the CPT. “Welcoming ABCRC to the Board reinforces our commitment to strengthening collaboration across regions and along the value chain and ensuring a balanced governance perspective among key stakeholders.”
ABCRC’s appointment supports the CPT’s ongoing efforts to help the implementation of high-performing recycling systems in the context of an evolving extended producer responsibility (EPR) landscape, while continuing to identify optimization solutions that can be deployed in the short and medium term.
About the Circular Plastics Taskforce
The Circular Plastics Taskforce (CPT) seeks to promote the implementation of a circular economy for post-consumer plastics in Québec and throughout Canada. The CPT aims to improve the alignment between end-markets’ needs for recycled resins and the recycling value chain, by identifying and implementing concrete optimization solutions that can be deployed in the short and medium term. The CPT is led by the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation (ABCRC), Cascades, the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC), Circular Materials, Danone Canada, Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), Keurig Dr Pepper Canada, ProAmpac and Recycle BC. About Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation
As one of the largest common collection systems for beverage containers in Canada, ABCRC continues to be a convener, collaborator and connector for Alberta’s beverage container recycling sector. We help recycle more than 150,000 different types of regulated, non-refillable beverage containers sold in Alberta; by identifying viable end markets and industries, we ensure that those recycled beverage containers are processed into something new.
